On 12th November 2024, the world of ocean science popped into classrooms across the UK as part of Protecting Our Planet Day (POP24), an inspiring live-streamed event organized by STEM Learning UK, ESERO-UK, the European Space Agency, and the UK Space Agency. This incredible event brought students face-to-face with leading researchers and conservationists dedicated to protecting the Earth, showcasing cutting-edge science and technology from space and sea.

We were delighted to host a session in the Protecting Our Oceans section, focusing on the fascinating science of Ocean Colour. Our presentation highlighted how studying the colour of the ocean helps us understand its health and contributes to tackling major global challenges like climate change and waterborne diseases.

We were proud to join a lineup of other fantastic presentations, including talks by the National Oceanography Centre and Project Seagrass, who explored topics like seagrass restoration and groundbreaking research in the ocean’s ‘twilight zone’. Together, these sessions highlighted how collaboration and innovative research are making strides in ocean conservation.

Through events like POP24, we aim to inspire the next generation of scientists, conservationists, and change-makers. By exploring topics like Ocean Colour, we can all take a step toward protecting our most precious ecosystems.

Let’s protect our oceans, one wavelength at a time! 🌊
