The latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms are being utilised in numerous applications from speech recognition to self-driving cars. There is an increasing interest in applying AI algorithms to Earth Observation (EO) data, but this requires specialised computing hardware and expert knowledge to ensure optimal results.

In recognition of this, the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) has awarded NEODAAS £1M to build the Massive Graphical Processing Unit cluster for Earth Observation (MAGEO), a 200,000 GPU core facility designed for applying the latest Deep Learning frameworks such as TensorFlow to large archives of EO data. The MAGEO cluster will be combined with existing satellite processing capacity and expertise within NEODAAS.

For more details on MAGEO and updates see our dedicated MAGEO page.
